Students of the Department of Public Management and Administration joined the discussion on the topic of ensuring barrier-free access in Ukraine

On September 19, graduate students, masters and bachelors in the specialty 281 “Public management and administration” visited the National Agency of Ukraine for Civil Service and became participants in the round table “Public service without barriers” strong>.

The event was attended by:

  • Natalia Alyushyna, Head of the National Agency of Ukraine for Civil Service Issues;
  • Svitlana Kolishko, project manager for human rights and access to justice of UNDP in Ukraine;
  • Christophoros Politis, Deputy Permanent Representative of UNDP in Ukraine;
  • Nadia Adamenko, acting director of the Department of Digital Development and Transformation of the Ministry of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine;
  • Civil servants of all levels, officials of local self-government, representatives of personnel management services, representatives of the scientific and educational community, students of higher education.

At the event, attention was focused on the fact that with the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russia on the territory of Ukraine, the problem of barrier-free access has become even more urgent and, unfortunately, the number of people with disabilities will increase even more, therefore it is necessary to create levels conditions of access of various population groups to services and providing them with opportunities to actively participate in society. It was not only about physical barrier-free, but also about information-digital and organizational-cultural.

During the round table, a study on human rights and inclusiveness of the system of professional training of public servants was presented. All participants of the event received the manual “Accessibility in public service”, which is a guide for building an inclusive and accessible Ukraine.

The participants of the round table also focused on one of the most important topics of our time — how to attract young people to work in public authorities.

Students of higher education from the department of public management and administration, after visiting the round table, proposed to hold a seminar on the topic: “Barrier-free in the institution of higher education” within the educational discipline “Public service and personnel management”, because , as the master’s and graduate students themselves said: “The main task now is to change people’s consciousness regarding the issue of barrier-free access. We need to move towards inclusiveness in everything with small but systematic steps, because we have to grow as a conscious society that cares about its citizens.”
